What is Transgender Day of Remembrance?
November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance. The day is used to remember the transgender and gender non-conforming individuals who are no longer with us due to acts of violence.
I encourage everyone to remember and pray for our Transgender friends, family members and those whose names are unknown to us, who have been attacked or killed this year.
Being one’s, authentic self should not be an invitation to violence or possibly death. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made.
Here is a prayer…
God of love, you see each one of us as beloved. You know the names of all of those misnamed or misgendered at birth and you claim us all as your children.
God of peace, comfort those who mourn. When one of us hurts we all hurt.
Give us the courage to speak out for those whose voices have been silenced, to stand with those who are bullied and walk with those who fear danger.
God of beauty, you are beyond gender. You made each of us in your image. Be with us today as we remember all our family…Amen
