Responsibilities

Celio is a part of the administrative hub that supports the region as a whole. Celio is one of our front-line workers, responding to inquiries and requests for information, sending out email campaigns and maintaining the website.

Celio enjoys the creative opportunities in his job including working on the website or putting something visual together in support of a program.

Celio supports the administrative side of the Social and Ecological Justice Commission as well as provide support to the Intercultural Diversity Commission.

Celio de Andrade Santos (he/him) Experience and Biography

Celio is an Afro-Indigenous Brazilian from a favela in Rio de Janeiro and he was always involved with social justice projects since he was a teenager. His professional background is mainly in the areas of Marketing and administration, where he worked as an administrative assistant in a Brazilian company that creates telenovela scenarios. In the Marketing area, he had many jobs in Canada where he used to work with social media strategy, website updates, SEO, and video editing.

Born and raised in Brazil, he was amazed to learn more about the United Church as being an affirming church when he first joined the grass-root movement “Fierte Simcoe Pride”, where he was a volunteer to help create a positive impact on the LBGTQIA+ community in Barrie. He believes that by working at United Church he will be able to contribute to creating a positive impact on many people’s lives.

Celio’s favorite quote is an African one that says “I am because we are,” which in his opinion is a phrase that reminds us that we need to live in community and help each other because we just exist and survive through connecting with other people.
