Canadian Shield Regional Council is pleased to introduce WALK BESIDE ME, a place where we share stories of inspiration, revitalization, and innovation from around our region. If you have a story idea please share it with Susan Whitehead.

We at the CSRC are very proud to announce that Harry Stewart and Chris Southin (of Thessalon, ON) have been awarded the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Award for being the co-founders of Rainbow Camp®.  Harry Stewart and Chris Southin are active members at Zion United in Thessalon.  The former Algoma Presbytery provided seed money when Rainbow Camp was but a dream and continued to support it and the United Church has also provided ongoing financial support through the Mission Support Grant program.

Meritorious Service Decorations recognize great Canadians for exceptional deeds accomplished over a limited period of time that bring honour to our country. They honour achievements in both military and civil divisions. The Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) were established to recognize remarkable contributions in many different fields of endeavour, from advocacy initiatives and health care services to research and humanitarian efforts.

Past recipients have tackled poverty in their community, improved education opportunities for children in Canada and abroad, or raised awareness of important causes and issues.

Thank you Harry and Chris, for all you have done for founding Rainbow Camp, which gives LGBTQ2S+ youth a safe place to have fun and explore emerging identities while helping to change societal attitudes.

We could NOT be more proud of you both!
