SUMMARY:Let's Connect: Lay Leaders Webinar - Governance and Living Faith Stories
DESCRIPTION:Leaders: Governance Task Group of Shining Waters Communities of Faith Commission \nMany churches are facing stagnation from a lack of volunteers\, overworked staff\, and lack of vision or mission. There are outdated board structure that require more volunteers than some churches have members\, ministers and office administrators end up taking on more work\, and no-one’s quite sure where the community is going. \nIf this sounds like your church\, join us on Wednesday\, June 19 for a workshop on Governance Structures and Living Faith Stories. Eun-Joo Park will lead us through a review of different governance structures used in the United Church\, and Tom MacNeil will refresh us on what a Living Faith Story is and why it’s vital that churches have one (don’t worry\, they don’t take much to start). \nThis is a joint webinar with Canadian Shield and Shining Waters lay leaders. There is no cost for this workshop but pre-registration here is required. We hope you can join us!

SUMMARY:Learning on Purpose 2024: CCS’s intensive leadership development course
DESCRIPTION:Leadership doesn’t have to mean a business suit and a firm handshake. It doesn’t require a flashy persona and all the hippest jargon. It’s not about having the power to call all the shots. \nThe Centre for Christian Studies is grounded in the diaconal tradition\, which means being the church in the world. It means standing with those who are marginalized. It means leadership that empowers others\, and it’s grounded in a theology of justice. \nAt Learning on Purpose you’ll explore models of leadership and approaches to theology\, education\, pastoral care\, and social justice that empower and create change. \nLearning on Purpose: Changing Leadership for a Changing World is the Centre for Christian Studies’ 2-week intensive leadership development module. It is a practical\, holistic\, hands-on\, learning community experience\, and those who take it come out feeling transformed (in a good way!). \nLearning on Purpose 2024 will be held in Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue (Montreal)\, QC from June 17 – 28. \nit is open to Continuing Studies students who want to be better leaders as well as CCS diaconal ministry and certificate students starting their programs.

SUMMARY:March CCS Friday – An Ecology of Faith Formation
DESCRIPTION:Join the Centre for Christian Studies (CCS) on Friday\, March 15 (noon Central\, 1pm Eastern\, 11am Mountain\, 10am Pacific\, 2pm Atlantic) for an online conversation about the eco-system of faith formation in congregations. Our special guest will be UCC Growth Animator Greg Smith-Young. \nWithin creation\, ecosystems form as different and diverse creatures (living and non-living) interact together. Each part plays a vital role in making the whole. Ecosystems are about interdependence and integration. What can happen when we bring an “ecosystem” way of thinking into the faith formation work of congregations? Join us as we imagine the possibilities. \nGreg Smith-Young (he/him) is a Growth Animator with the United Church of Canada. SUMMARY:World Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:The Inter Church Council of Massey presents the World Day of Prayer at St. Andrew’s United Church in Massey. \nThe invitation is out for everyone – men\, women\, and children of all ages – to join the 2024 World Day of Prayer as we celebrate the theme “I beg you … bear with one another in love” based on Ephesians 4: 1-3. A committee of Christian women of Palestine have prepared the service this year. We are encouraged to reflect on the history and challenges faced by this area as citizens struggle for security\, peace and independence as well as the efforts that women have made during changes in ruling influences over the last century. This is an opportunity to examine a geographical area that is home to the birth of Christianity.

SUMMARY:CCS Friday: Creating Harmonious Space
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, February 23 from 12:00 to 1:00 CST join an online conversation about creating “harmonious space” rather than “safe space”. Harmonious space is the condition in which diversity and inclusion truly grow. Guided by author and educator bell hooks\, who said\, “ Learning takes place in harmonious space” and “Community that allows for risk\, the risk of knowing someone outside your own boundaries is love.” We will consider harmony and risk as opposed to “safety” as the best environment suitable for diversity. \nOur special guest will be Deaconess Adrainne Gray. Adrainne was consecrated a Lutheran Diaconal Association (LDA) deaconess and ordained an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) deacon in 2017. She is currently the Director for Recruitment for the LDA with a focus on Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion and works remotely from her home in Atlanta\, GA. \nCCS Fridays are free. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Rev. Kathy Dahmer who works at Health Sciences North in Sudbury as a Psychotherapist in the role of chaplain. \nTo register\, visit\nManitou Intentional Learning Community (manitoulearningcommunity.com) \nThis workshop will provide a safe space to ask difficult questions. It will provide information and insights and provide an opportunity to wrestle with theology and faith\, ethics and fear. Kathy Dahmer:\nRev Kathy Dahmer lives in Whitefish and works at HSN as a Registered Psychotherapist in the role of Chaplain. She works with patients and families as they navigate MAID and attends the deaths to provide care; first to patient\, then to family. Kathy has extensive experience in providing supportive care in palliation from her many years of work at Hospice. In private practice Kathy specializes in Emotion Focused Therapy\, which is an experiential therapy rooted in attachment science. Kathy suggests that often the questions from our heads are coming from a need within our heart\, and listens deeply for the language of the heart. These experiences lived and learned contribute to her understanding pastoral care as the greatest reflection of incarnation.
