DESCRIPTION:In anticipation of the newly established federal day of reflection – The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – the Right Relations Team and Canadian Shield Regional Council would like to encourage each community of faith to commemorate this day in a meaningful way.  Here are some suggestions of a few events in some areas around our Region.  There are many more events happening in our region that are not listed here.  We hope that this list will serve as a catalyst for you to honour this day. \nNATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION EVENTS\nOnline or Televised Events\nUnited in Learning “Indigenous Children Then\, Now\, and Tomorrow” on September 29\, 5:30‒7:00 p.m. Eastern. Panellists will touch on topics including Indigenous children in residential schools\, the Sixties Scoop\, the Millennial Scoop\, and bringing our children home. Dumont challenges the church to re-examine the theology behind its past decisions around residential schools so that it might live out the words of its apologies. He challenges the country to re-examine its responsibilities and relationships with Indigenous people. Our annual gathering for Music United will be online this year due to the pandemic.  From April 22-24 join us for workshops\, worship\, a cross-Canada hymn festival\, a pub night and our Annual General Meeting.  Workshops include the UC Musician Guidelines Resource\, Creating Virtual Choirs\, Meaningful Music Making\, De-colonization of church music\, and Musician Mental Health.  For full program details please visit www.musicunited.ca.  Registration is through Eventbrite.  We’re suggesting a contribution of $50 for the event\, with options to pay less or more\, according to your circumstance. DESCRIPTION:Body Image: Seeing Ourselves Through God’s Eyes\nAs God-made\, incarnate beings\, we all live in bodies. And\, because we all live in bodies\, we all have a body image. Body image is how we see our bodies when we look in the mirror\, or conceive of our bodies in our minds. It is what we believe about our own appearance; how we feel about our bodies\, including our height\, shape\, and weight; how we physically experience our bodies.\nBeginning at a very young age\, and continuing throughout our lives\, many of us internalize messages that lead to either positive or negative body images. SUMMARY:Embodying Power and Place
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, Nightwood Theatre and Native Earth Performing Arts are honoured to present Embodying Power and Place\, curated by Donna-Michelle St. Bernard and New Harlem Productions. In 2019\, the federal commission on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls released their final report\, Reclaiming Power and Place. In 2020 over a dozen artists from a wide range of disciplines were commissioned by New Harlem Productions to read and respond to specific chapters of the report. This digital iteration of Embodying Power and Place offers twelve audio-visual works that seek to honour the lives of the missing and murdered Indigenous women\, girls\, Trans\, and Two-Spirit people\, and strives to create a sacred space in which to reflect\, heal\, and find renewed hope. \nInformation and Registration
